I’m proud to say that WTF Marketing was profitable enough that I was able to pay August’s rent – without splitting it. Hoorah!
I’m a man of few superstitions. I believe, more than anything else, that we are the tools of our own destiny – we build our own futures by the actions or inactions of today. That being said, one thing I do tend to believe in is fortune cookies.
A few months ago – I was working on my Star Trek audio drama and having some problems figuring out where to take the story. One night I made a trip to Panda Express, and received this in my fortune cookie:

Did I mention that the name of the audio drama is Star Trek: Dimensions? After that, I was able to start again on my scripts. It wasn’t “direct” inspiration, but just enough reminder that I needed to make it a priority again.
Okay, okay, so – you can blame me for a false-positive correlation, but this isn’t the first – and certainly won’t be the last time – that I receive a fortune cookie like this one. Today, Leslie and I had a lengthy talk about the state of the economy, where the jobs are, and what we think the future of employment will look like. Naturally, this got me thinking about my own business with a sense of dread – that somehow I might not make enough money to get through to September, let alone… well, you get the idea. I am a bit of a worrier – I have faith, but prefer to be at the helm.
I don’t think I have too much to worry about, I have some very cool website bids in the works and I’m launching two new MeetUp groups. The first – the Digital Gunslingers MeetUp Group to teach people the 1-2-3′s of social media tools and also teach some neat classes like “Online Reputation Management”. The next – the Northern Colorado Millennial Madness Support Group – to help bridge the gap between employers, who are often confused by millennials, and millennials, who are notoriously difficult to manage.
Tonight my work is going to focus on the WTF Marketing website – I WILL get this finished tonight – I’d say I’m about 50% on the ambient theme and 25% on the layout.
Tomorrow – my work is going to delve into recording video for both WTF Marketing and Psychotic Resumes. There’s going to be some really cool stuff coming very soon.
Oh – and today’s fortune cookie: “Use your abilities at this time to stay focused on your goal. You will succeed.”
